Had this happen on one of mine.
Try Prime95 I bet it fails too. (stress test)
It passed other burnin tests.
I think something got too hot or took too much voltage.
I did powersupply, fans, motherboard, RAM, CPU, CPU fan, new hard drive
unless some part failed for a second time, in the process of me changing the
rest.
I tried old and new versions of both GUI and CLI SETI client.
Mine was an AMD CPU, but I have others that are working OK
I tried Windows98SE and WindowsXP Pro
I traded it in, it works fine if the CPU isn't stressed.
Microsoft Office works OK.
Maybe a good word processing station :-)
Try SpeedFan and see how your fans are and what temperature.

I hope hardware troubles aren't completely off the mark in this NG.

My IT pusher has had the machine for overhaul three times concerning
the subject. The first time he put a new video card in. It helped just
for a short while - it was a periodical failure in the beginning, now
it's there all the time: if I start SETI@home as commandline in a
"dos" window, via SETISpy, or as a screen saver it's the same result:
a crash after 10-60 seconds. I've tested different commandline
versions I had on store.

At the moment my OS is Win 98SE (changed it from Win XP just to see if
it helped), case with 300 Watt PSU, motherboard AOpen AK 73(a), CPU
Athlon 1900+ (1606 Mhz), L1 cash 256Kb, L2 cash 128Kb, 512 MB noname
SD ram, LCD monitor, Logitech Cordless MX, broadband 512/256. Most of
the hardware is around one year old except for the Logitech MX.

What could be wrong? The machine works flawlessly with anything else,
and passes a lot of hardvare diagnostic tools.
