Few follow-up questions:
1) Why is 3.03 faster?
2) Are there any drawbacks to running 3.03?
3) Is the GUI version of 3.03 faster, as well? And are there drawbacks to
running the 3.03 GUI client?
Thanks,
Heather

Can anyone tell me whether the text client is faster than the
GUI client,
even if the GUI client is running the background (minimized),
with the
screen saver turned off? I've been running the GUI client
minimized w/o a
screen saver and I am processing work units an avg. of 3.75
hrs, on my Dell
Inspiron 600m, 1.3MHz Centrino, 512MB RAM with the 3.08 GUI
client. I'm
wondering if I'd be better off changing to the text client.
It's my opinion that the text client (CLI) will always
process faster. The last time I used the GUI was about 3 years
ago. I'll never go back to it. :-)
The v3.03 WinNT Command Line (CLI) Client from
ftp://alien.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/ will be even faster.
"setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe" is the one to look for, just
under
half way down the page.
NB: This is the official server accessed by the link from the SETI@home
download webpage but you can still get the faster v3.03 client rather than
the new v3.08 client that is direct linked. There's only a minor
security
'fix' between v3.03 & v3.08 that, AFAIK, has never been exploited...
