HI ALL !
Just a quick question I have just built a new system with above mobo
2.4GHz
800MHz HT processor , 256MB PC3200 memory , WD 80Gb hard drive , W98SE
os
. What changes if any should I make in BIOS? My system will be running
24/7
and I would like to optimize for setiathome . I am currently running
SetiDriver and a command line . Average time /wu is about 3h 30m . Thank
you
in advance .

You need to switch to Windows 2000 or XP to get any benefit from the
hyperthread technology. That setup should do 12-14 wu's per day with
an HT supporting operating system.

He's absolutely correct, Joe. Simply by switching to WinXP you can
easily increase your output by ~50%, since you can configure SetiDriver
to run 2 CLI's, one on each 'logical' proc. The reason I mention XP
only, is 'cuz I've heard some conflicting reports on the effectiveness of
hperthreading in W2K. Since my experience using W2K involved non-hyper-
threaded cpu's, I do not feel qualified to comment on the effectiveness of
this combination.

My (XP) rig, w/hypethreading disabled, using 1 CLI, does a WU in just over
2 hours, or slightly under 12WU/Day.

Exact same rig, with hyperthreading enabled, running 2 CLI's
simultaneously, runs each WU in a little under 3 hours. But, 2 WU's are
getting done in the 3 hour period, versus one unit in the 2 hour period,
therefore production increases to 17+/day.

I'm assuming you're aware CLI3.03 is 10%+ faster than CLI3.08. I confirmed
this on my rig using hyperthreading. I cannot speak from experience using
CLI3.03/3.08 in a non-hyperthreaded environment.

I'm running an Asus P4P800, which is very similar to your board, and may
have the same Bios options. When you change to a Hyperthreading enabled
O/S, don't hesitate to post here regarding Bios options. I'll be more than
happy to share my several weeks worth of Bios tinkering/optimization
'perks' with you. But right now, I'd start with a new O/S for a quantum leap
in performance, rather than small incremental optimizations via the Bios.
JMHO.

'Course, if you wanna' OC, then those Bios 'increments' might not be so
small!!! <g>

[P4P800's & 2.4G P4C's are both excellent, stable, OC'ers, if interested]
