Heh, that's an urban myth about AMD CPUs running hot - the most recent
Barton core XPs run VERY cool at spec speeds, way cooler than any higher end
P4 in fact.
This machine has a Barton 2500+ running at 31% overclock (2.4GHz) that is
currently at 6C & it never rises above 15C, even on a 'heatwave' day. :-)
That's with a 220W Peltier and watercooling though. ;-)
The straight watercooled Tbred B 1700+ at 12x200 for 2.4GHz (60% overclock)
I mentioned below runs at 35~43C dependant on time of day. It's spec Vcore
is 1.5V and I've upped that to 1.75V, so it is running quite a lot hotter
than it would at spec' speed but watercooling handles that, no problem...

2 units every 3hrs 50mins, thats giving me sub 2-hr intervals now,
over a 33% improvement :)
33% improvement..! Goes to show how much waiting around for main memory
P4
does I guess...
Sounds nice though, circa 12.5 results/day off a single CPU. :-)
Stratcat, who posts here, has his P4 2.4C overclocked some way and he's
getting circa 17 results/day off it..! I'm dead jealous 'cause I have
nothing that even approaches that. ;-) Best I have at the moment is an
AMD
1700+ overclocked 60% running WinServer'03, currently averaging 2h06m
for
11.4 results/day but at least that CPU only cost me US$70. ;-)
