Well, I'm getting pretty convinced that might be the case. I'm using 
Falcon Rock II HSF, and have added a couple of fans blowing the hot air 
out of the case. I'm using PC Alert III temperature monitor, and it 
indicates temperature of about 57°C.

That's too much.
My XP1700 overclocked to XP2200+ (1836mhz) never went over 55°C 
while the room temperature was over 30°C, and sometimes even
35°C.

As we speak, the room temp is 24°C, CPU temp 40°C, System Case temp 34°C.
And that 100% load 0/24h 7d/week. I'm using glacialtech igloo 2410pro 
cpu fan (~4900rpm) which was under US$8.
