Ah, okidok...
I haven't been deeper into the Climate Prediction community, so I
initially thought it was
a brand new, different SETI (BOINC?) Client ;)
Anyway, Climate Prediction sounds interesting, but the runtimes really are
a bit too hefty
for my taste per WU...
Neat software and nice to be in at the ground floor, which I missed for
SETI. If I'd known about the CPDN Beta test, I would quite likely have
signed up for it. Since S@H currently have an 'embarrassment of riches',
I've switched one fast WinME machine over to CPDN - it's currently going to
finish it's first climate model in just under 20 days. Quite a slow 'work
unit', even for an Athlon at 11x213 for 2343MHz... <LOL>
The thread on their message board that got me really interested contains
Carl's (One of the [2] fulltime CPDN team.) comment that some guys
overclocked Athlon was processing his model faster than a Cray. <LOL> When
I fired mine up it was running almost exactly the same speed (2.08
secs/timestep.) and trouncing the whole of Carl's list of P4s. I dunno why,
but CPDN is definitely Athlon friendly at the moment - a 2.0GHz 2400+ runs
close to a 2.8GHz P4..!
I'm still producing circa 60 SETI results/day & still moving on up the
anks - even though I only have 7 out of the 12 in my farm online at the
moment - so what the hey. ;-)
