Have you tried writing or calling the tech people that actually made
these machines? They will usually help in your case because if not
they know you will not buy from them again.
If they balk tell them a little white lie, like you are considering
purchasing more but only if the HT problem can be solved.
I had a problem with an old Compaq server I bought used, it wouldn't
boot and it had no disks. I sent a note and a techie and I emailed
each other for 2 weeks solving the problem. He even told EXACTLY which
number to call and order the disks AND the part numbers. He EVEN had
the costs, $15.00 US. Come to think of it we even actually talked on
the phone for over an hour for the first contact.
Turns out for $20.00 it was a decent buy.

Hi frodo and Stratcat,

I think frodo is right. This is because I can't find any HT entry for
my notebook BIOS. Even though from Intel's WinCPID, I can see that my
notebook actually HT detected but not enabled. So, I am kind of
curious is there any way to enable the HT, so that I can run some of
my multi-threaded application faster.

I have another machine which is HT detected but not enabled. I
wondering is there any way to upgrade to a new BIOS, so that I can
have a HT-enable machine?

Frodo and Stratcat, thanks for responding to my post.

Regards,
Casey

Hm,
I have the suspicion that this feature may not be present in a lot of
notebook BIOSes, because of the desire to make battery life look
respectable. or to avoid the processor becoming cooked.

Hi everyone,

Seem to be a hot HT topic here....
But I wondering is anyone here know how to enable HT on a Compaq
 notebook?

Seeing as no one responded to your post (at least as seen on my
 newserver),
I'll toss out some ideas, even though I own neither a notebook, nor a
Compaq.

Ascertain your cpu is HT capable (P4B 3.06. / P4C 2.4 - 3.2).

Ascertain you have an HT supported OS (W2K, WXP, WXPRO, WSK3

Enable HT in your Bios, if Compaq allows access to this function.

If using WIN*: CTR+ALT+DELETE to open the taskmanager. Pull down
view/CPU History/One Graph Per CPU. If you now see two cpu 'Usage
History' graphs, you're HT enabled.

Otherwise, try one of the alt.comp n/g's more specific to your machine/OS.

HTH
