Yep... Also, mine will get worse when I go for water cooling on the next
upgrade

Why..?

For the higher amperage CPU and all the other extra bits I'll be hanging
off it! The older bits may well be kept in service also...

Naff all Wattage really - if you upgrade to a 17" LCD at the same time then
your overall power usage for computing will plummet..! Quite affordable now
even if you're after gaming capable reponse time. (16ms clear+fill
combined.) I bought myself a Mistubishi/NEC Syncmaster 1760NX a few months
back for 420 shipped and you can get them for 350ish now - and that's a
high end, zero dead pixel, pro class monitor..! I've even seen a 19" I
would have bought had it been available at that price a few months ago...

One damn good deal I saw very recently if folks aren't into assembling their
own is the Systemax (Misco) Ascemt 3010 - amazing spec' for 899 + VAT -
that includes a 17" CTX LCD, a two standard DVD+/-RW, XP 3000+, 512MB
PC2700, NForce2 mobo Etc. Etc..! Only down side if you want to game on it
is the slightly low_spec_for_the_machine Radeon 9200 but that's no slouch
really.

I hadn't realised things had tailed off tthat much - a recent post here
about BOINC has a link to some comments by David Anderson that they're
using
some of the gear to serve S@H2 Boinc clients - only Sun at the moment
but
they're woking on the rest too.

I hope they get their act together very soon, or at least make a few
honest public anouncements, or both, before they start losing people.

Ditto, basically they've lost me for the moment at least and if I get really
heavily into CPDN, which I am at the moment, then I won't be back - it is
supposed to be going to run under BOINC at some time but it seems to work
just fine standalone at the moment - not much in the way of stats yet but
it's coming and the rank stat's they intend using (timesteps) are a much
better reresentation of work done that 'work_units'...

Yep - as you've seen I now have six machines on CPDN and only one still
SETIing - I'd probably have switched that one too but it's running
WinServer03 and the CPDN client has issues with that O/S as yet.

It's a shame the UK group haven't ported the CPDN client over to Linux.
I may try it on Wine next week when I have time to play. Could be
interesting...

En-route but not there as yet. Checkout the Linux message board off the
main page for Linux/Wine info' - it's not a simple installation but it can
be done using a Windows box for the down/upload of data and there's a
looooong gap between the two with CPDN..!

WinServ03 is pretty high on their list of 'ports' too - fussy networking is
stopping it running at the moment.

Ciao...
