There was a large ring shaped mass and the gravity from the ring distorted
the space in the centre. I don't know what physical properties it would
have
though.
Stephen Baxter's 'Ring' - he has his characters make a door 'tween universes
with cosmic string, not a black hole but what the hey, my thought is just
about as unlikely as his - it wasn't one of his better books AFAICR...
