So my question is this -- has anyone had an opportunity to try out SETI
on an Opteron system, and how much of a performance increase did they
see in comparison to an Athlon XP processor of comparable speed?
Unless they've released an x86-64-Windoze version of S@H recently,
you're actually going to see a reduction in speed, according to the
benchmarks I've seen.
Aparently, the way S@H works, the 32-bit stuff in the Hammer doesn't do
the job for it as well as the Athlon XPs do.
But, I would hope the S@H folks think about releasing a Windoze 64-bit
version sometime in the near future. :-)
You must be looking at the wrong benchmarks or wrong reviews. A 1.8GHz
Opteron processes a WU somewhere in the range of a Thoroughbred based
AthlonXP running at 2.3GHz
