Could it be that the RESET switch is duff, so its 
constantly resetting the system. You'd get a bit of disk 
thrashing when you power on (as they POST themselves), 
but that would be all. 
Just a thought.

Thanks Steve, I've since tried that, disconnected the reset 
switch from the mobo and it made no difference.

I had a stuck power switch do that.
