Radio is a crude and inefficient means of communication.
This implies that there is something better. There is no sound reason
to believe that. There is a lot of wishful thinking in this area,
of course.
I find wishful thinking to be abundant in most debates on this issue, which
of course, most often derails the likelihood of an accurate discovery of the
truth.

To the original troller, I think you will find that the professionals do
have a good idea of how difficult their task is; its not one you go into
if you want a guarantee of a famous discovery. One of the concerns they
had with SETI@Home is that it might make the public think a detection
likely and therefore disillusion them when they learnt the truth.
I think that this "voyage of discovery" has been drifting about aimlessly
for many years now without much of anything to show for it's efforts. I
welcome a second generation attempt which addresses the many flaws of the
first.
