Thanks for posting the conclusion, and quite a story.

It may well be that the switch-mode DC-DC convertor for the CPU on the motherboard had failed, or that one or more of the smoothing capacitors had failed to then zap one or more of the CPU supply rails.


Now... If you have all these CPUs and motherboards 'lying around', how long to assembling a mega-farm for number crunching?
