No, it was about the same time as Code Red, I guess - Slapper.
I was off a little bit on the date, it was September of 2002. It also
only had any effect on x86 architecture and folks running Apache with
SSL support.
Note that all the recent mass worms have been MS specific worms/viruses.
They're so common it's hard to find the Linux/Unix worms in the mix.
The need for updates is going to be on-going for some time yet. At least
in Linux there is no or little pressure to add extra features in an
update that then adds extra bugs over the ones supposedly being fixed...
And they actually get fixed, quickly. Right after they're discovered.
