Dear Ma'ams and Sirs,
Wow, checking the Powerleap website, the 1.4 GHz Celeron conversion was just
reduced $30 :) to $120. The 1.1 GHz PIII was reduced $10 to $220. However,
even if they were both free, the issue would be which crunches WUs faster.
Take PowerLeap's advice and get the Celeron, it will be quicker.
According to their web pages, Intel do not make a 100MHz FSB 512KB cache
1.1GHz P3, and with the same cache size and FSB as the Tualatin 1.4MHz
Celeron, the slower 1.1GHz P3 will be slower.
All the P3 Tualatin CPUs run at 133MHz FSB and are unsuitable for your
system, and max out at a 10.5 multiplier, so it's not an underclocked
one (needs 11x) either. According to Intel again, the 1.2GHz P3 would be
Tualatin but only 256KB cache, so maybe just faster because of the upped
FSB, and the 1.26GHz P3 could have either cache size, but likely 512KB
because of the price. The 1.4GHz P3 should have 512KB cache and would be
fastest.
Do not be confused by the fact that the PowerLeap adapter can take
Tualatin CPUs. It can also take ancient 733MHz 66 FSB Celerons and 256KB
Coppermine P3s too, which is what you would get.
Cheers,
Chris.
