Good research Chris.

I appreciate it, too. Interesting about the cache being the significant
factor, and that has become the same for modern P3s and Celerons.

Well, for $120 plus shipping, the new Celeron gizmo won't be sinking
_excessive_ money into "This Old Computer." Looking forward to it.

Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow.

Also, I have a new 160 GB drive here (did I mention? Best Buy special, $99
with new ultraATA card in the box), and was going to upgrade from Doze98 to
XP, blah blah blah. But you'll be happy to know that I'm going to switch
gears, start building my first new computer, and save the new drive for it.
Indeed, my next purchase will be a case, barring unforeseen sales.
(Something with water plumbing to keep the Neon transformer cool.)

It even occurs to me to cancel old plans to upgrade this Dell from 384 to
768 MB sdram, which would have required throwing an old 128 MB card into the
trash to make room for one of the new 256 MB cards. But it doesn't need
more memory if most activities will be migrated to the new computer, and
this one will be mainly for crunching SETI. There, I just saved $150
dollars. Straight and narrow.

I got my start reading you guys (and Carolyn).
