One of the things that could be a problem is if you experience a power
burp and your machine reboots or crashes. Then the whole work unit
being processed will be lost.
Also most desktop hard dirves has a MTBF(mean time between failures)
of 50,000 hours! That is running continously. Laptop hard drives are
not meant to be run all the time, although more than a few do and have
no problems.

Hi all,

Just joined SetiGate@Earth. I became aware of SetiGate in the course
of my quest to run seti@home with my hard disk shut down. I have
succeeded in doing this using RAMDisk98/ME and SetiGate. You can find
an article about it at http://www.tommyatkinsonbooks.com/lgm.htm. Hope
this may be useful to some of you. (This article is written on the
assumption that the reader may never have heard of seti@home. For most
people here, it contains some redundant information. Sorry.)

I got into this because I like to run seti@home all the time. I
worried about putting so many hours on my hard disk, but now my hard
disk sleeps the whole time. Pretty cool arrangement.
