If the buildings aren't too far apart you may consider wireless NIC and
Router solution to connect the two machines.  Be sure to use the security
protocols that come with them though or you will be inviting everone coming
by to use yur connections.

The problem is that the machines are in different buildings, and that
the linux one can't connect beacause there isn't any telephone line there.
