is it possible to set up windows (cos thats what my family will use in my absence) to have windows cache 50 or so work units for seti for it to work on while my brother works on other things?

Such a large cache size is a bad idea. The WUs get too old and so someone else returns all the results before you can. Better is to use a *small* cache and permit automatic internet connections.

For a Windows machine, you *must* use a firewall. You also need to learn how to use the firewall, and how worms, viruses and trojans work.


And I hope your Uni will insist on teaching you some punctuation!
