You can install a service on Win 98 and ME as well. In fact it's easier
under 98 & ME. If you do it this way, download default.zip from
www.wakeassoc.com/setidriver/default.zip and expand it. It contains a
global change to windows to allow command line programs to exit when windows
shuts down.

What Bob said.
Install the command line version as a NT Service.
However, this requires NT4, Win2K or WinXP.

| Hello,
|
| I am in charge of a couple of hundred pc's in a highschool.
|
| We run novell 6 with Zenworks that forces the pc's to a novell login
| screen at bootup.
|
| We also use profiles that download each time a user logs into the pc.
|
| My 1st attempt to run seti was thinking I could use the screensaver
| version, and replace the login screensaver with seti in the registery.
| That way, seti would run when the machines were not in use, sitting
| at the login screen.
|
| I have run into some problems with this tho.... Seti asks for
| specific info each time I reboot the pc. It obviously runs a little
| different from a standard screensaver (ie. it has data files etc to
| keep track of). I have not figured out a way to make it work this
| way.
|
| SO.... I am asking if anyone has ideas on how to implement Seti@home
| in this type of environment with these limitiations. I have
| considered running seti driver in the background minimized, but it
| will only work when people are logged into the machine. (not very
| efficient). ((and...it eats up resources when people are using the
| pc.))
|
| Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated,
|
