It certainly works!
It does, but requires you log in to X to do any crunching... a not good
thing for many folks (myself included).
1: Greater efficiency of the ICC compiled WinNT 3.03;
Wine adds an extra bit of overhead, though... as well as the running of
X necessary. I'm not all that convinced that ICC does better than GCC
these days, though. Unfortunately, SETI@Home Classic's source isn't
available today to be compiled by newer compilers.
2: Uninterrupted logging by SetiSpy and SetiQueue;
Yeah... SetiSpy is nice. I kinda like JSetiDoor, though, which works
fine under Linux. I gave up on watching client progress a while ago,
though.
3: Dual boot without recomputing a partially processed WU.
However... Since transferring to Linux, I've not needed to go back to
Windoze. I may well be reclaiming that 40GB of disk space not used thus
far this year.
Same story here. I have about 12GB of my 20GB drive in NTFS form... all
stuck, not being used save once every other month or so. One of these
days I'll get rid of it, replacing it with a nice ReiserFS partition...
Mandrake 9.1 Linux
Wait until you get away from Mandrake.... :-)
I started off with Mandrake and finally found myself forced to use
Slackware. I haven't looked back since.
