No you don't. The program only uses the cpu when you aren't.
If you are only using 30% of the cpu the program uses 70% or whatever
it can when it can. It is MUCH better than the screen saver version!
AND if you run it thru SetiDriver it can even cache workunits in
itself!

leaning the CLI version this close to the change-over to BOINC. I
dislike web-based forums, much prefer usenet.

FWIW, there's no "bother" in running the CLI version.  Just download
it to its own directory and run it.

If you want to get fancy, put a shortcut to it in your "StartUp"
folder. There's a lot more you *could* do with the CLI client, but if
"bother" is a factor, you don't *have* to do anything else.
