Greetings newsreader...I did find you spec interesting...
"interesting" is such a non-commital word... =P
Assume you are running win2k since you listed motherboard monitor. How
are
Yes, I'm running Win2K but you can run MBM on any Win32 product.
you booting off the lan? Some time ago I looked into attempting to boot
I'm not. Each machine is independent right down to seperate UPS's at this
point and acts as the primary 'active file' storage backup for the other.
from the lan but would have had to program the nic to do that. Does the
6VTXD bios support booting easily from a server? I would be interested in
The manual says it supports it but I can't attest to how easily. =)
The BIOS has provisions for 3 boot devices including a 'boot from network'
option. I have no idea how easy it is to actually get it to work though.
To be honest, I've never set up a machine for a network boot.
learning how you did that as you mentioned using the lan for the hard
drive.
Sorry if the spec page is misleading. There are 40 GB drives in each pc --
the LAN only comes in as additional storage. (There is another 120 GB of
common file storage available on another PC/fileserver accessible to the
whole LAN.)
I recently noticed that computer geeks has some of those SMP tulatin P3
http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=238888-B21-N at a decent
price,
Not a bad price at all. I checked directron.com after I posted the last
message and they're still at $189 there.
but I am not sure if the heat sink would clear the components in my
GVTXD's.
It would appear from the wording of the ad that the heat sink was
permanently attached to the CPU.
It does give that impression... For that price it might be worth emailing
to find out for sure. FWIW, it's a pretty close fit with the GA's #2
processor and the drive cage in my case, but it fits even with a good sized
CPU fan (Thermaltake Golden Orb). If the drive cage in your case overhangs
the mobo you might have problems...
