I have heard two bad things about AMD from 2 independent techs:
1) they run hot and if the cpu fan goes, then your cpu is fried
(E.g. my old PIII/450 fan went and the cpu kept running. I got a new
fan and all was back to normal.)
2) AMD was called by the second tech about a voltage on the board not
matching the specs. "Yeah? So that's the way it was made." came the
customer rep's reply.

I have been running AMD's and Intel's forever! I still have my first
Intel, a 4.77mhz XT! It still runs! I did get rid of my Commodore SX64
though, a friend bought it awhile back.
I have NEVER, knocking on wood here, had a problem with ANY model CPU!
I do add a fan to every case I buy and build all the machines myself,
I currently have 15 or so in my farm. 3 are now doing Boinc, my 2800+,
a 1.6 Intel and a 1gig Intel.

I was in the 99th percentile when I had ~10 machines running sah.
Since I was forced back to only my old machine I dropped to the
98th percentile. With the 3 gig, the cli, and a 2nd wu working my
machine will do ur machine like it's the AMD-girlie-man it is! :p
