Gary,
According to "your own" reference material your original statement is
blatantly false!
"you can only dual-process the ones with 512K of cache, which wasn't
available in Socket 370 below 1.26GHz (ran into that at work with some
motherboards; they were apparently designed to use chips Intel never
released)."
Seems You could have put all that time you've spent around computers to
better use...
Your first step toward redemption could be:
DON'T state something as fact that you are not "positive" is. (positive and
pretty sure are not the same thing)
If someone questions your position, check your facts before you lock and
load and ultimately end up going down with your ship!
"TIME IN SERVICE" Don't mean SQUAT unless you are learning every minute you
are there...
One of mankind's greatest obstacles to advancement is the preponderance of
Ignorant old SOB's who know it all gumming up the works.
You still sticking by your original false statement?

I do; I just like to have sufficient context to eliminate confusion.
And... so what if you have a Class C address block? I musta missed
something in this thread.
Tried to get one lately? I registered mine about 1989 or 1990. ARIN
wasn't even formed until about four years later, which is why they
show a 1994 registration date on 204.128.130.0.
I've probably been involved with computers and Usenet longer than
anyone else in this thread. While my primary email address has changed
a few times over the years, my real name has always been associated
with it.
There is a batch of Socket 370 CPUs that don't multiprocess; if I'm
delusional, so are several other network administrators at work, as
well as Axion and Intel:
http://www.axiontech.com/store/support/cpu_related/Intelstuff.htm
specifically identifies a series of Tualatin devices as not supporting
SMP unless they have 512K of cache, and if you examine Note 9 on the
Pentium III Processor Quick Reference Guide at
http://www.intel.com/design/pentiumiii/qit/update.pdf
you'll find a number of Socket 370 devices not certified for SMP.
But heck, don't let me bother anyone with facts. I'll just continue
crunching; I may yet break 45,000 results before S@h wraps up.
