Maybe a stupid question but why not? There are probably thousands of
accounts that are never used, why not delete them?



Well, simply because there is a computer out there that has the user id and 
*could* return a result. The only way to delete an account error free is to 
delete all instances of the user id as well.

And, if a user had *any* results and wanted to delete his own account he 
would skew the total stats.

But then, there is no real harm in having inactive accounts as long as you 
can provide *active* user statistics.
