This is from the BOINC team to us Beta Testers and as you can see some of
the results are being used once validated. They given credit as a work unit
at Seti@home though.

Yes, thanks to the Herculean efforts of Jeff Cobb and Eric Korpela,
the SETI@home validator and assimilator are now running.
The validator does a fuzzy comparison of redundant results,
picks one as the canonical result, and decides how much credit to grant.
The assimilator inserts the canonical result's signals
into the science database; it has to communicate with
both Informix (science) and MySQL (BOINC) databases,
and it took a while to get this working.

This means that beta-testers are now doing scientifically useful
computation, which is great.
But there are still some things to do before we can "go public".
The current SETI@home app crashes 17% of the time.
We need to get this down to 5%, hopefully less.
Stack traces of crashes, supplied by some Windows-savvy users,
have been extremely helpful in finding bugs in the SETI@home app.
We'll try to make a "cookbook" so that everyone can do this.

There are also problems related to work distribution and credit.
It will be easier to nail these once the app is working reliably.

A request: could all beta testers please upgrade to the latest
version of the BOINC core client (2.17 for Win and Mac, 2.16 for others)?
Earlier versions have bugs that cause them to spam the server.

Hi folks.
Just wondering: is the data you send back from the BOINC beta test
(Astropulse) already checked for signal candidates? Or is the data
returned now lost and will it only start recording when the beta fase is
over?

And: howcome I can only participate in the astropulse project and not
SETI@Home classic via BOINC?

Thanks a lot!

Keep on lookin' they're out there!!
