Right now I have 1 dual processor, 300mhz, and I have 13 single
processor computers. Other than the dual processor, an old Compaq
server, no other machine is under 700mhz. They range all the way up to
an AMD 2800+.
I have a 1400mhz Intel that is down at the moment, it died and I am
hoping that replacing the power supply will bring it back to life. I
took the motherboard to a computer store and it posted just fine. I
have a power supply tester, I build most of my own machines, and it
says the old one was flaky.
Every machine is running the CLI and I have SetiQueue running to keep
them all happy. I do see a slow down on the SetiQueue machine though.
Instead of about 3 hours per work unit, it is taking almost 3 1/2
hours. This is all done at home thru a small network. I have a
wireless router with 4 plug in ports built in. I had to put some of
the machines semi-remotely in the basement, my sons bedroom got too
warm! That meant I had to put in 2 access points hooked up in bridge
mode so I didn't have to purchase wireless network cards for all of
the ones down there. Putting them in the basement also meant I had to
come up with a program to remotely manage them. I use Radmin, it works
REALLY well.
An adventure to be sure but very educational too!
I actually have 1 other machine running Boinc just so I can help in
the Beta process.
