I don't need to see my name in print. If you did a Google search on me you would come up
with THOUSANDS of hits on my name. You might even find I worked with Jeff Cobb of SETI on a
FireWall issue last year or so.
The answer is a poor excuse because the problem IS mitigated by the settings I provided for
Win9x/ME and once done the OS in question will run *very well*. Going from .5GB to 1GB will
neither speed up SETI nor slow SETI down. Win9x/ME was touted as having the max. RAM of
2GB. Unfortunately, the bugs in the OS and other limitations drop this down to 1GB.
If you have problems with Win9x/ME with RAM between .5GB and 1GB and have the SYSTEM.INI
settings I provided then I suggest posting to an appropriate Win98 or WinME Microsoft News
Group such as: microsoft.public.windowsme.general Place "Attn: Mike Maltby" in the
subject.

|
| Actually, it affects the whole Win9x family to some extent. I don't have
| the URLs to the KB articles handy, but it's a pretty well documented issue.

|
| Mitigated, but not entirely fixed. But that wasn't the point. The point
| was that the statment that adding memory would always result in a faster
| computer was eroneous at best.

| I just gave one. Do you have a "real" objection to my original comment or
| are you typing just to see your name in print?
