Wrong:-). Knowing that they ARE out there why would we want to alert them to
our presence if they might have some of our characteristic flaws---like
might makes right---'cause if they have the power to get here and they have
such a flaw we're doomed.

You could be right.  As far as I know SETI only listens.  That's safer.
