Joe K <"Joe K"@myhome.computer> expounded in
news:407629FF.325BB070@myhome.computer:
In a win98 running seti command line, what is the least amount of
processes I have to run.
I have only explorer,systray,msgsrv32.exe,mmtask.tsk
and mprexe.exe
running. What is and can I turn off
msgsrv32.exe,mmtask.tsk and
mprexe.exe? Can I also turn off systray?
Explorer is basically your Windows desktop. Kill that and you pretty much
lose all Windows functionality. I've done it before under unusual/extreme
circumstances (eg. the task list said that it was "not responding"). As I
recall, it didn't completely kill my system, but I couldn't really do much
after that.
Systray is the system tray part of the task bar. You may not need it,
depending on your system, but there's no point in killing it.
Try a Google search for the other names (eg. mmtask.tsk). I found
descriptions of the two I looked for with no problem. Once you know more
about what they are, you'll have to decide if you need them.
