I doubt most of them are spaceworthy, though, although
those lucky enough to live near Kennedy Space Center might
see an occasional shuttle launch. Not sure if I could see
a shuttle landing. I think the shuttle might have passed
over my house (and a lot of other houses!) at one point,
and there wasn't much to see -- a silver sliver moving
fast -- but it's an interesting concept to think about
our astronauts up there.
Now if a space princess were to take an interest in me,
along with a red-headed female scientist, a piratess, a
couple of female policemen (one a complete ditz, the other
reasonably competent), and a youngster tagging along for
the ride (whose sister is she anyway?) and my granddad...oh,
wait, it's been done.
:-)
(Besides, I'd probably be the kid's dad by now anyway. His
portrayal wasn't exactly the most flattering... :-) )
what?
Don't worry, I'm not completely nuts ... yet. But I do know that
the problems of space travel would preclude a lot of visitors,
barring discovery of some very strange new quirk of physics.
As for the princess etc. etc., that's a Terrestrial (specifically
Japanese) creation... (hint hint HINT)
You just got the hots for Ryouko. :-)
Ah, well, she's blond and buxom ... at least after the
first episode, anyway. We don't see the details of her
makeover but she scares the beejeebers out of Tenchi (who
apparently is quite inexperienced around women) on their
first encounter, looking a lot like a skeleton with a wig
-- and then somehow makes herself over to the slightly
top-heavy form seen in most of the rest of the episodes,
as she shows up suddenly just after Tenchi wakes up from
where he fell asleep somewhere in his school (does falling
asleep in the schoolyard happen often?).
I'm not sure if this is supposed to tell us something
about women, or not...I hope not, for it would paint
an equally unflattering picture for the males as well.
I know I have a skeleton under my skin; I prefer to
keep it there for now. :-)
One wonders what the kids thought of Ryo-oki. Reminds me
of the "floor wax-dessert topping" debate, in a way;
how does a flop-eared cat/bunny rabbit/thing transmutate
into a crystal and a spacecraft (that can eat red peppers
and go fast to boot)?
There's a real UFO. Unidentified Floppy-eared Object.
