Prolly better to ask on sci.astro.seti - they seem to have more
science-oriented threads over there than here.

Don't know about Barnett, but Shozzy is always a great read.

Saw the subj line's title mentioned here recently:
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/seti-store/set20roadfor.html

It's 17 U$D, + free shipping, at Amazon. I'm looking for a read that
focuses
a bit on the technology side of SETI, at level suitable for someone
working
in technology. It doesn't have to be at a 'true' Electrical
Engineering
level, but just not so dumbed down that I have to wade through pages
of
basic concepts, like rodrian, A/D conversions, & the inverse square
law.

I just recently wasted 17 bucks on McConnell's "Beyond contact...":
 http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/alien/articles/

It was published by O'Reilly, written by a SAH 'insider', and got four
stars
at Amazon, so I had high hopes...what a waste!

W/SETI 2020, I'm hoping for some reasonably decent technical
discussion.
Anybody got an opinion?

Thx

Try S@H's bookstore. Then check the book out _b4_ u buy it.

Libraries have very large collections when you ask for a "book on loan."
This way you won't be getting a product sight unseen.

Try a scientific bookstore in your neighborhood. First ask _if_ they have
it, then visit the store, look for the book and browse.

Never buy unseen products over the internet. eBay, Amazon, et. al. allow
views of the product. With a book there's even greater risk b/c one page
does not tell you what the other pages will be like.

<O.T.>

E.g. I buy games over the internet b/c I know the rep of the game from
others I just happen to buy. I got burned once when I bought "Unreal 2"
based on the *OUTSTANDING* performance of the other 3 "Unreal" games. It
turned out to be a major waste of time, money, and effort. (Any Half-Life
game rocks.) So the only way I'll buy a game now is if there is a demo
(something I can *see* for myself), or comments from others who bought and
played the game for themselves. (I wouldn't trust a review... there's always
other influences involved.)

</O.T.>

Hope my utterly worthless $0.02 helped or gave you some ideas.
