I will start, I am sure others will correct what is wrong and add to
what I miss.
After Boinc is up and running full time and everything is deemed okay
by the Seti Team the old Seti will be shutdown. At the same time, or
their abouts, all of the beta clients will also be refused
connections, everyone will then be processing Seti thru the release
version of Boinc.
Boinc has the flexibility to be used by many other distributed
processing programs, like climate predictions, drug searches, protein
folding, Astropluse, the examination of black holes, the examination
of more of the sky than the current Seti, etc, etc.
No there is no official date for the switchover to the release version
of Boinc. The beta testing is progressing and some testers are
predicting a month or so, but some have said that before and that
month has come and gone.
