Hi,
I ran across a reference in a book which mentioned a radio antenna that was set up in Nebraska in 1926 by the Government for the purpose of monitoring for intelligible extra-terrestrial signals.  Apparently it only remained in operation for several weeks with no results.
I've not been able to find any further particulars on this site and wonder if anyone here may have additional details.
