After reading this Now I wonder should I uninstall the BOINC 3.07 I just
installed?
I really think SETI in going in the trash fast or am I reading this wrong.
Any response?

JustMe -
BOINC is going just fine. I decided to pull out, 'cuz the purpose of current
site being discussed, is, ATM, apparently to be used as an Alpha test site,
prior to Beta, and eventual public release. My decision was a personal one.
"Stats greed" may have been a somewhat strong term. But everything is fine
w/BOINC, and it's moving steadily to full public release.
As for current issues w/the server status of SETI Classic, this is to be
expected of a DC project nearing a cut-over phase.
To address your other post concerning the VLA: You're probably referring to
the Allen array, which was originally proposed by the SETI Institute, and is
largely funded, and subsequently named, after Paul Allen, Microsoft's
co-founder. This array will be built and operated by Berekely, and, IIRC,
the site is either owned or leased, by Berkeley. So ostensibly, this will
continue in some form of SAH.
IOW, everythings fine...

BTW - I'm just a SETI hobbyist. Your questions, in detail, may be better
answered by a SETI/ASTRO professional, if not here, then in the
sci.astro.seti n/g.

There's been no formal announcement, so correct me if I'm wrong,
but
SETI
appears to be BOINC'ing when examing the various stats here:
The site is in testing. It is NOT READY for public consumption.
Some
individuals who were trusted to keep the site's address private
released
the information when they likely really shouldn't have.
There are still A LOT of kinks to be ironed out before the site is
ready
for beta testers to hop onboard... letalone those expecting a nice
stable experience.
That being said, would you be aware, or have the liberty to comment,
as
to
whether credit granted in this current endeavor will remain valid
when
the
roll-out becomes 'official'???
BTW - I took my machine off the project, since the servers have
become
gridlocked to the point of being virtually unworkable. I've got a
1/2
dozen
WU's that will not u/l, due to the lack of a server ACK, even when
attempting a manual x-mit.

The credits earned during the Beta test WILL NOT be carried over when
the program is released to the public.
The credits we earn aide in the testing of the whole program, some
problems still exist with the crediting.
The only thing is to keep trying to upload the units or just delete
them.
After a time frame the units are redistributed to a new bunch of
people if the results aren't returned.
Thanks for your responses guys.
After reading this thread, here:
http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/forum_thread.php?id=9
And noting the intended purpose of the site at this point in time, along
w/the unfortunate overflooding, I've decided the only responsisble
course
of action on my part, is to remove my machines from the current project.
The
"invited" BT's, and Berkeley, need to perform thier controlled testing
w/as
little interference as possible, IMHO.
If I were to remain, it would be an example of "stats greed", and not
the
'science' we are attempting to further.
But now that the genie is out of the bottle, I doubt it can easily be
put
back in, unless Berkeley uses some form of login controls, or as stated,
changes sites.
Good Luck.

Strat
