Boinc itself would run on a 386 with 16MB of RAM. The applications,
though, require about the same resources as the current SETI@Home. I
wouldn't run it, personally, on anything lower than something i686
compatible, but that's just me. For *nix, I don't think there are any
i586 binaries available, but you should be able to build you own should
you so desire.
Workunits tend to take a bit longer than classic SETI@Home, depending on
your OS and CPU. Windows users are stuck with debugged builds right
now, so they don't crunch as fast as *nix users.
