is there a forum or group where people discuss doing seti at their own home?
There is an organisation for doing this, the SETI League,
<http://www.setileague.org>. They have a members only mailing list,
argus@s.....g, for such discussions, but they also operate a
public list, public@s.....g, to which many members are also
subscribed, although they may encourage you to join up before, going into
too much detail - the site has a lot of free information, though.
These are Majordomo lists, or you can get the joining instructions from
the web site (obviously you cannot simply join the argus list).
Please be aware that the chances of any one individual making a
detection are much much less that of Arecibo making a detection.
Even if you do make a detection, it is important to be part of a group,
so that your detection can be independently verified and quality controlled,
to give it credibility before escalating to the professionals.
Please note that you are using a broken news submission program that
submitted two separate copies of your article (multi-posting); that
causes the discussion to fragment. I have properly cross-posted this
reply to the other group I know you to have posted to.
