I will run seti only when I don't use the computer.
I used to run SETI all the time.
One day, I had to change my SETI-Driver to run at Low Priority, instead of
Normal. More and more often, I have to close SETI because my [win98]
resources or Free Memory are running low. Now, SETI is closed more than it
is open.
You should NOT run SetiDriver at Normal if you use the machine for
other things! That is why there is a setting for low! In operation the
only difference between the low, normal, and high settings is how long
it takes for the computer to respond to other processes when running.
Using low makes the most sense because the computer is available when
you want it AND the max cycles are used by Seti when you don't.
If for instance there are 10 cycles and nothing else is running
SetiDriver will use all 10, BUT if you want to open IE then at the low
setting Seti will stop using all 10 right now and give IE what it
needs to open. At the normal and high settings SetiDriver may back off
only 5 or 2 cycles, leaving IE to try opening in fewer cycles than is
ideal. When IE is running it may only need 1 cycle and at low
SetiDriver will again speed back up to 9 out of the total of 10.
