Martin -- I've tried all the things you suggested in your previous post (firewall, etc etc) except the one about having a look at proxies (it's telewest, not NTL, and there doesn't seem to be much info on the internet about that?) and it's still happening... I guess I'll wait a few days and see if it resolves itself because I may be sitting here trying to fix problems and perhaps they aren't anything to do with my settings, as you second post may indicate...
