Two questions - How did you have the GUI configured to run?  Specifically,
how long did you have the display set to stay on?.  Also, 45 hours is close
to two days - so what platform are you on and how much memory is available?

I have the GUI configured to run always in the background (minimized
and in the system tray), and usually it was the only thing running for
about 8-9 hours a day, maybe up to 12 hours (depends on if I have work
that day or not). The screen-saver was set to activate after 15
minutes of computer inactivity, and the graphics ran for about 1
minute until the screen went blank.

I am running *cue laughing and pointing* an AMD-K6 3D processor with
about 351 MHz.  Also, I am led to believe that I have absolutely no L2
cache whatsoever. I have an L1 cache with 64 KB (32 KB code and 32 KB
data).  I'm running Windows 98. :">
