I nosed around the new BOINC directory and found the boinc_cli
executable much to my surprise. GREAT I thought, but it would not
install as a service. boinc_cli -install appears to run then errors
out. Says the service was not added and it's marked for deletion. It
does find the project, reports version etc...
Tried rebooting etc, no joy. Just for grins, I changed the old SETI
Service AppDirectory and Application strings to correspond with the
new BOINC install directory and boinc_cli.exe, started the service
and it's now running at 97-100%. Shows it as "setiathome_3.08" in
the task manager. I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Hey...might be a nice find, for a svc work-around, tho I was under the
impression the boinc_cli -install switch worked as a straight-up CLI
install, and not as a service install. I could be mistaken, though.
Running BOINC as a Windows Service.

The link says to do a "boinc_cli -install", but it also said you had to
compile the boinc_cli.exe yourself using VS.NET. I was just nosing
around in the BOINC directory to see what was there. Looks like they
decided to do it for us.
Usage: boinc_cli [options]
-version show version info
-install install boinc as a Windows Service
-uninstall uninstall boinc as a Windows Service
-exit_when_idle Get/process/report work, then exit
-show_projects show attached projects
-return_results_immediately contact server when have results
-detach_project URL detach from a project
-reset_project URL reset (clear) a project
-attach_project attach to a project (will prompt for URL,
account key
)
-update_prefs URL contact a project to update preferences
-run_cpu_benchmarks run the CPU benchmarks
-check_all_logins check input from remote users
-allow_remote_gui_rpc allow remote GUI RPC connections
Not sure why it wouldn't install as a service. Sez it will. Looks like
it's working for now anyway. It's done 4 since last night and they show
up on the results page. Taking about 4 hours per WU with an AMD 1800+,
no O/CLK and CL3 SDRAM. It usually does 6 or 7 a day running the
classic command line as a service. I'll run this for another day or so
then try it again on an XP box.
LOL - I've been pokin' around, everywhere, tryin' to find the
3.08.exe. After takin' a look at my WU times, I'd love to replace it
w/CLI_3.03 to see what happens. I don't know if it would work, tho I'm
pretty sure Berkeley wouldn't be too hot on the idea. <g>

I don't think it will make much diff if any. I ran it on one box and
saw no discernable time difference. It was mainly a security update for
buff overflow.
