Anythings possible:-) But as others have posted it seems to level out
over
time. However I thought the cache size was determined by boinc after the
speed test.. Can one manually set the cache size?

Yes go to the Boinc page and then to your account, scroll down to
preferences, general, and click on view/edit, you can change the
minimum and maximum days to cache work units on your machine. A number
of .5 is okay to use if you so choose.
I have mine set at 1 day minimum and 2 days maximum, but I have a
cable connection and am always "on" the net.
Ta, I actually sussed it:-) Went and had a look at the setup due to S@H
not delivering new WU and causing boinc to defer connection repeatedly.
Set max cache size to 4 days.
As it stands I'm ending up with 2 WU max:-( 1 in cache and 1 in progress,
so far I've had repeaded failure to send out new WU's from the server and
dispite hours of waiting have managed to complete 12 WU since the 23rd
of this month.. If I had a decent size cache I think my throughput would be
at least a third more.. too much time spent idle waiting for WU's:-/

Currently Berkeley has a maximum of 50 units per computer as the max
size of the cache. That may change as the program settles down.
Well even 6 would be a help, right now I have no WU in progress due
to the server refusing to send any:-(

You don't want to big of a cache because of the "report deadline" date
that is found for each workunit under the "work" tab. If you return
any unit after that date you WILL NOT get credit for it, AND Boinc
will automatically send it out to others computers for crunching.
The more that happens, the longer you and I have to wait to get credit
for our on-time finished unit.

Well as far as I can determine the report deadline is over 6 days, so if I
now get only 2 wu at any one time then 4 day=8 WU at that rate still
wouldnt take more than a day and a bit.. nowhere near the 6 day limit:-)

With classic S@H my cache size was about 7 days on each of 3 pc's,
and that was due to server outages etc.. I wouldnt set it too high on
boinc due to the different setup anyway.. But its a pita to have the rig
idle due to lack of WU..
