personaly the screensaver doesn't mean much to me, but no doubt
others will use it as such
now remember, the entire point of a screen saver is to 'save' the
screen yes ?
so why how they not changed it at all, it's still the same as
seti@home classic, only i think they used opengl to 3d it up a bit,
it's still basicly the same, on the issue of 'saving' the screen
it's little better than the old one
couldn't they make it bounce around a bit and make it small (maybe
it does ?? i dunno i didn't leave it on that long)
if it is indeed like the old SAH screensaver, it will clear every 2-3
minutes or so and redraw the graph at a different angle... combined
with the fact that newer monitors are much more resilient (screen
savers harken from the era of amber/green monitors, which would burn
in in a matter of hours - now they are more of graphical playtoys),
Maybe a little more resilient, but not immune. I bought a bunch of Compaq
15" ex-lease monitors at auction and they all have burn-in to a certain
degree. All the same pattern, I can *almost* read it on some, so I guess
they all came from the same company and were left for extended periods with
the same thing on-screen. Good thing they were cheap though.
you have little risk of suffering burn in. also, if you're really
concerned about saving your monitor... why don't you turn it off? no
power = best screen saver, and energy saver too!
For sure. I have mine set to show the pretty pictures for five minutes, then
turn off. I also have the "Go to blank screen" option in 'settings' set to
five minutes as I believe that, even if the monitor is off, if the 'blank
screen' option isn't set the CPU/GPU are both still working hard to generate
graphics, even though they aren't being displayed as the monitor is off.
With the CPU working to display graphics like that it's got to slow down
your crunching.
