I am interested in how long the time listed in the "To Completion"
column is for different machines and the specs of those machines.
Four I have here are:
Athlon T'bred @ 2.1Ghz 256KB 200MhzFSB 512MB 3:03:48
Athlon Barton @ 2.2Ghz 512KB 200MhzFSB 512MB 2:53:17
Celeron1 600 @ 900Mhz 128KB 100MhzFSB 256MB 8:15:11
Celeron2 900 @ 900Mhz 128KB 100MhzFSB 384MB 7:23:16
However, the top machine (3:03:48) has 22 units completed at the
moment and only one took over three hours (3:06:31). The average of
the units it has listed at the moment is 2:43:00 or thereabouts, the
fastest 2:20:56. BOINC is underestimating that machine at present.
Celeron1 only has two units in it's completed state at the moment
and that took 8:51:32 and 8:24:11 so it took a little longer than
estimated. Celeron2 has five units and is averaging 10 hours, 33%
longer than estimated. It is playing mp3s all day but not at night
and it's on 24/7 and the units are consistantly around 10 hours, day
and night. Both Celerons are on BX boards but different
brands/models. (The Barton is turned off, the girlfriend has gone to
bed).
I'm mainly interested in the CPU specs and the estimated times
though. Anyone want to share?
I think if you run the mp3 palyers WHILE doing the benchmarking you
MAY come out with a closer to accurate time. The benchmark is based on
whatever the computer is doing while benchmarking, if you stop doing
your regular stuff it will say it is faster than it really is. Maybe
the Celerons are fast in the beginning but then slow down because of
the small cache and that is affecting the benchmarks? If so then the
programmers should have caught that!
Also, I've completed about 50+ units at least and have only been
credited for one of them, about five days ago. (37.38) I've checked
the site when I've been able to several times over the last few days
and a lot of the other units have three results reported and have
done for a while. Wassup with that?
Cheers,
The units getting granted credits are based on others returning their
units. The board has been down and very little has been getting thru.
I have over 30 units ready to return but can't get thru. I had over
17,000 requested credits before they took that stat down. I now have
Total credit 1887.86
Recent average credit 149.09
as of right now.
I think the machine doing the crediting is not getting the full
attention of the programmers and may be backlogged as well or even
down.
You must have quite a few fast machines to have amassed so much credit so
quickly.
I never saw the 'requested credit' thing but I know I've done a lot of WUs.
I made the mistake of setting my cache to 3-6 days initially and was given
over 50 units on my Athlon so I left it on 24/7 for a while to crunch them
(well) before they expired. They've all been done and I have a more
realistic cache of 26 now. Celeron2 (above) is on 24/7 as it is our internet
gateway. The only unit I have received credit for is one crunched on
Celeron1, which is only on about 4 hours a day on average and that was
granted pretty much on the second day of the project going public..
My stats:
Total credit: 37.37
Average Credit: 2.92
Not exactly encouraging is it?
