I'm only signed up for Cable Modem service, so they put on a filter that
blocks the Cable TV . Well, a few TV channels leak through... If you
cascade enough amplifiers together...
FWIW -
I met some grad students 2 years ago, who were taking some university
classes with me, and they were sharing off-campus apartments.
They did it the opposite way. They ordered the "local" CTV feed for
$9.95, and then pulled out the rest of the CTV channels & the broadband.
They then networked the svc's to each of thier 3 bedrooms.
It must be pretty easy to do, since quite a few students were doing the
exact same thing. This technique also supposedly worked with the more
expensive "Extended Basic" CTV for $39.95.
Besides the ethical & legal issues, my understanding is that only ordering
the 'local' feed can raise a red flag for the CTV provider, unless its used
in the environment it's intended: Feeding local programming to ppl in
high-rises that cannot recieve a radiated signal due to thier living in
architecturally dense areas, and whose resident building does not supply a
feed as part of the building infrastructure.
