ultimate success will be determined, over time, by the personal
enjoyment provided by the new stats & scoring systems...
When SETI Classic started, there were probably a few 386 and 486 computers
participating. Hopefully, not any more.
In contrast, BOINC could potentially generate a few magnitudes more data.
That might be good for some excitement. We're searching for ET, but who
knows what [serious science] the new data will uncover.
No argument there. But, BOINC is unique, in that it's an environment, for
a lack of better words, rather than a project. If the BOINC environment
is well accepted, I could foresee a lot projects wanting to piggy-back on
its success. If time finds BOINC, or its admins, to be troublesome, then it
will be shunned.
I understand that each project has some flexibility in the way it dispenses
work, validates, and grants credit. I think it probably will be a success.
But there will always be those projects that want complete autonomous
control of all aspects of thier project administration.
As for SAH2, I thinks its success will be gauged, when we see what the
active user count is, after SAH1 ends.
