I'm having one heck of a time getting BOINC to run reliably as a service.
I'm running WinXP pro. The steps I have used to install are:
1) Run the installer package, deselecting the "Select as default
screensaver" and "run on login" (or whatever that second checkbox says...
this is from memory.)
2) I complete the sign-on with project and user id. Once my work units have
downloaded I end BOINC.
3) From a command line in the boinc program directory I issue: boinc_cli
-install.
4) I open windows services and ensure that I have BOINC running as the
system user.
I tried both of the following:
5) start the service and, once it is running, shutdown and reboot the
computer
or
5) sign-off and, from another machine, remotely administer the machine to
start the service.
When I look back later I find that the service has stopped and in the event
viewer I see where BOINC registered that it received a user signal to quit.
This is happening on only a couple of my WinXP boxen, the others are
identically configured in both hardware and software.
One other thing, I have attempted using the login "Network Service" with the
boinc service, granting authorities to the BOINC directory and its
contents. I have the same problem.
Anyone have an ideas where to check next?
TIA,
Barry
