When I look back later I find that the service has stopped and in the
event viewer I see where BOINC registered that it received a user signal
to quit. This is happening on only a couple of my WinXP boxen, the others
are identically configured in both hardware and software.

I know it's bad form to reply to yourself, but I'm now able to see the error
message in the event viewer. BOINC is sending an information message that
states, quite simply, "[---] Exit requested by user"

Does anyone have a clue what could be sending an exit request to BOINC?

TIA,
