Just looking for forums which are specific to the SETI-BOINC activity.
'Course 'forum' and 'newsgroup' can have different connotations. In a very
general linguistic sense, it would seem newsgroup would be a subset
of forum, but, as pertaining to the internet, newsgroup refers to Usenet,
and forum usually refers to an html based discussion group, as typified
by some of the teams, enthusiast clubs, BOINC's site, etc. At least, IMO.
SETI Classic newsgroups are mainly "alt.sci.seti" and "sci.astro.seti".
Can anyone guide me to where the SETI-BOINC specific groups reside,
please? The number of newsgroups to search makes this slightly
difficult, when the usual "key word" searches come up blank.
No. Because there is no BOINC specific Usenet n/g, as of this time, much
less a SAH BOINC specific n/g.
I am running SETI Classic until I reach certain WU numbers. This leaves
room for the SETI-BOINC system to settle, and keeps me away from the
"initial registration rush" as long term Classic crunchers switch.
The BOINC posts here can keep us aware of issues like -
server down, WU d/l not keeping up, WU time and cashing, etc
I also go over to their URL <http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/>, and
associated pages (like /forum_thread.php/) to "keep up".
Which is the current Berkeley SAH2 BOINC homepage, which leads to the
Berkeley SAH2 BOINC forums.
This way, subject my nearly completed Classic WU targets, I can decide
when to register and switch my SETI small holding over to BOINC.
Before this I would like to subscribe, and lurk, on the BOINC and SETI-
BOINC specific newsgroups.
Well, no need to lurk alt.sci.seti, as I found this to be a pretty civil,
helpful, and friendly corner of the net.
Welcome.
Right now, this is the only game in town for SAH BOINC, in a newsgroup
format, AFAIK. As BOINC progresses, and SAH Classic ceases, this n/g will
transition with the change, and probably become BOINC centric, as relating
to SAH, since BOINC will be the new SAH format. A glance at the last several
days posts show this appears to be the case, already.
But, even though SAH BOINC will probably eventually predominate this n/g's
topic of discussion, this n/g is chartered for SETI, not SAH BOINC
'exclusively', so periphial topics will come up, and Usenet, being as it is,
topics will sometimes meander.
If the BOINC platform becomes ubiquitous, it's POSSIBLE somone will
start a BOINC specific n/g, for purposes of cross-project discussion, and
BOINC discussion, in general. But, I doubt a new n/g would be chartered
for BOINC SAH exclusively, since alt.sci.seti covers this topic pretty well,
already. 'Course, I've been wrong before, too.
